QR010 - LEE PENNINGTON - JUMPIN' ON THE BANDWAGON

Release Date: Jul 29th, 2008

Over the last few years Lee has fast become a respected DJ / producer of underground house music under his Section 75 and riffraff aliases. He has tracks supported by the likes of, Hernan Catteneo, Nick Warren, Steve Lawler, John Digweed, Scott Bradford, Paul Van Dyk and many more A list Djs.

And with this track is no exception of his underground sound. He builds up an amazing groove from the beggining of the track, building things up with some sick lfos going all around. And an amazing vocal on this one.

The package comes with 3 remixes. On first hand Damon G, great producer and remixer from Canada, and Full Body Souns System manager, he had done amazing work in the past and this remix is no exception. He lift things up with his electro - progressive sound, with a groove that will make your feet move on their own.

The second remix comes from Tobias Hoppe from Germany. Cooling things down a little bit, with his deep progressive sound. Cool synths and melodies on this one. Great for warming things up.

And last but not least Facundo Romano from San Martin, Argentina. Turning things a little bit up on the progressive side. Great percussive grooves and hypnotic melodies on this one.

Reviewed @ Progressivehouse.com by Pete Lunn

"Uraguay's Quimika Records is fast building a reputation for quality releases and they aim to keep the momentum going with the second label outing from Moshing Idiots. The 'Swaggerback EP' is the Estonians follow-up to last years funky-electro work out 'Mosh It' which received support from some big names, the likes of Luke Porter among them.

The two tracks here demonstrate that these guys know how to work a dancefloor with some amazing bass lines built over a solid electro groove. What seperates this EP from their last effort is the sense of melody on display this time. 'Swaggerback' in particular is a great listen as well as being a sure fire track to work the dancefloors with.

While you could complain that its not a particularly original release, it's a solid EP which would mix in great to any current progressive set. Great production with some nice analogue pads and riffs it builds and drops all very smoothly...go on, lose yourself.

"pretty ethereal and well done on the production of this track." Ariel Cybana

Reviewed @ Progressivehouse.com

"I was immediately drawn to the release, there is some immense atmosphere to the first track, Some strange yet well selected sounds pretty safe beat but it works well against the backdrop of plucks, picks, tunnel feedback and floaty noise hitting your ear lobes from each and every direction.

A track with some major attitude, some bigger DJs will be well excused for giving this a voice, if progressive is evolving into a new breed then this is clear example of what can be done and again another example of how different countries seem to be offering more then the obvious dance music contenders.

Quimika might well be a label to look out for this release being no exception, my only gripe being that i wish the label had commissioned one other direction from this release as its pretty much what you see is what you get. Then again the label will hopefully be forgiven and maybe this draws attention to what is a good track in overcrowded industry.

Keep up the good work!

Simon Latham"

Review @ Progressivehouse.com

"‘Chicken Neck’, the 2nd release on new Uruguayan label Quimika, comes courtesy of Canadian/UK based club promoter Justin Gettings AKA JG Alim.

The Original starts with a techy-bleepy 4/4 riff, gradually building with more percussion layers and synth sounds. A good steady mid-set rhythm emerges and a heavily reverbed, echoey vocal – “This is the music” - provides a simple and effective focal point for the track. Sounds develop and gel together creating a quality progressive groover that builds and drops very well. Nice!

Colin C (AKA Consoul/Slighter/The Pushers/Deeptone) provides the only remix in the package. A 4/4 beat, nice percussion work, a deep throbbing bass, and a build up of thick quirky stabs and keys toughens the original up considerably. The vocal gives dramatic urgency to the feel of the track, creating an edgy atmosphere. Sounds flash in and out, then grab you and shake you around as the mood intensifies…Big room beats plod along and get the floor grooving!

Overall, no real downsides to this release, not quite a ‘huge’ ‘anthem’ track, and only one remix, but definite quality, and the vocals and steady production make sure this track will hold its own out there on the dancefloor. A Sound release for Quimika… look forward to more in the future!

Paul Kieran"

MOSHING IDIOTS - MOSH IT (REMIXES) OUT NOW!!!

Second part of this great package, now with two remixes by Nicholas Van Orton & Federico Giust to do some dance floor damage! Supported by Villo, Kevin Shiu, Marcelo Castelli, Mark Pappas, Brisker & Magitman, Luke Porter, Matt Styles and many more.

Here's some of the early feedback...

"Nice percussive techy sounds for those hypnotic moments" Sasha Le Monnier (Fiberlineaudio, Toryumon, Source of Gravity & Gravitation)

"This one is in the box and doing damage" Villo (Balance Record Pool)

"Lots of energy, peak time music, good for big room." Kevin Shiu

"Both mixes are great. Giust a bit more building, Van Orten is relentless with a great breakdown." Frank Chiarello

review @ progressivehouse.com

"Quimika records pushes out a nice little remix package as thier second release. One from dynamic argentinian producer Nicholas van Orton and the other coming from Quimika Records head honcho Federico Guist.

Federico gets dirty as he brings you a twisted rendition of the original. Greeting you with a solid kick and trippy overlay of acid-tech influenced mechanic melodies, Guist gets to it bringing an aggressive drum production as the track carries you into an altered state of consciousness. As mosh it continues its steady groove, simple stringed synths mix well with an echo effected drum production creating an eerie break before returning to its original groove. A well built track but not intended for peak time play but will help construct transitional grooves.

Nicholas van Orton delivers a much more driving remix with his filtered overlays and climbing drum production. A pulsating bass drives you even further down his corridor progressive grooves as an ascension of stabs and melodies draws you into a spacious break before launching you back onto his kinetically orchestrated tune.

Overall two fantastic remixes that can be worked into a multiple of sets, great potential from this young and upcoming label"

Review @ Progressivehouse.com

"Quimika’s first release was a two parter by the Estonian duo Moshing idiots, cleverly named Mosh it. The first release contained the original and remix by PH.com resident historian Colin C.

The original consists of a quirky drum production with selling sytnh layers and a deep pulsating bass. The First break introduces a series of hypnotic ambiances that kicks the energy level up when the drum production and bass team back up to push the groove deeper. Littered with smaller more intricate breaks, really keeps the original from being one monotonous in your face freight train of a track. Mosh it carries a strong groove ideal for leading up to bigger floor filling tracks and features a multitude of driving elements.

Colin C presents his Retrotengo mix a grueling bass induced stomper of a track. Laden with heavy kicks and mechanic ambiances, Colin gives it a darker touch with his alternate approach of the melody. Although not as driving as the original or Nicholas van Orton remix, Colin keeps this one far from being a sadistic lullaby, with elaborate variances and thick pulsating grooves."
